Godwin Djokoto is the Managing Partner of Legal Anchor. He was called to the Bar in Ghana about 20 years ago. Godwin practises and supervises the conduct of civil litigation representing many individuals and corporate organisations including Zenith Bank, Ecobank Ghana Limited, Bank of Africa, Republic Bank Ghana Limited, NCR Ghana Limited, China Europe International Business School, Africa Campus. He has expertise in banking law, maritime law, land law, labour law, construction law, intellectual property, and ocean law and policy. At the international level, Godwin was a member of Ghana’s Legal and Technical Team in the Ghana–Cote d’Ivoire Maritime Boundary Dispute before the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea(ITLOS) in Hamburg. Previously, he worked at the Legal Advisory Section of the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court(ICC) in The Hague as an intern. In this capacity, he was tasked with, among others, the responsibility of writing a commentary on the Rome Statute of the ICC particularly on the admissibility and presentation of evidence before the ICC and other international criminal tribunals under the Legal Tools Project. Godwin is a former Head of the Legal Department of the erstwhile Intercontinental Bank Limited, having risen through the ranks as a Legal Officer.
Godwin also has extensive experience in legal consultancy. As a consultant, with a wide scope of interest, he has consulted in the fields of banking; international fisheries regulation and management; land law; regulation of the construction industry and many others. He has served as resource person for several organizations including the Commercial Court, the Ghana Shippers Authority, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Ascertainment of Customary Law Project on varied subjects. He was also a Member of the International Panel of Experts appointed by the FAO (of the United Nations) and International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) in the United Kingdom to review the Technical Guidelines for lawyers in the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on Governance of Tenure (VGGT) relating to land, forestry and fisheries. He was also the Ocean Governance Expert on a three-member team of consultants who were commissioned by the Division of Ocean Affairs and Law of the Sea(DOALOS) in the office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations to author the Ocean Governance Study on ocean governance in Ghana. He has also consulted for the TetraTech ARD Inc/USAID on the Marine Protected Areas in Ghana.
Godwin also teaches at the University of Ghana School of Law, University of Ghana, Legon where he teaches, among others, Banking Law, Law of Contract, Equity and Succession, Immovable Property Law and International Law of the Sea and the International Management of Maritime Conflicts. He is the author of the book -The Law of Mortgages in Ghana and Editor of the Commercial Law Reports of Ghana. Godwin is a member of the Ghana Bar Association, Commonwealth Lawyers Association and the World Jurist Association. Godwin is a proud recipient of the highest national honour, the Order of the Volta, Companion for his role in the Ghana -Cote d’Ivoire Maritime Boundary dispute.
He is currently Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidate at the Australia National Centre of Ocean Resources and Security(ANCORS) at the University of Wollongong, Australia. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia Canada. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree in 2001.

Mawuli is an Associate at Legal Anchor. He was called to the Bar in 2022 after graduating from the Ghana School of Law. He holds a Bachelor of Laws(LL.B) degree from the University of London International Programmes. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English and Philosophy from the University of Ghana, Legon. He served as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Philosophy while on National Service. Mawuli has practised in areas of the law such as commercial law litigation, labour law, land litigation, debt recovery. Mawuli enjoys researching and is intrigued by the dynamics of civil procedure and evidence. Portia is a partner at Legal Anchor. She has 18 years of professional experience in corporate governance and regulatory compliance, investment and labour laws. Portia has developed a niche for herself over the years in corporate legal advisory and consulting work. She is also an experienced boardroom practitioner and had been trained by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on corporate governance. Portia has advised several corporate clients on matters relating to corporate governance and compliance; company law and practice procedures at board and shareholders’ meetings; provided legal advisory services to investors on general and specific laws as well as assisting investors to establish corporate presence in Ghana. She has provided legal opinions on a wide-range of legal matters including labour, investment and immigration matters, corporate structuring and re-structuring, company secretarial and legal due diligence, de-registration, liquidation as well as general legal advice.
Portia has also reviewed and drafted an array of legal documents and agreements, including shareholders’ agreements, share sale and purchase agreements, Management and Technical service agreements (technology transfer agreements), joint ventures, employment contracts and loan agreements, declaration of trust, employment contracts just to mention a few. Portia has provided Registrar services and managed the shares and kept proper record of share movements for a public limited liability company with about 120 shareholders.
Portia has also handled a wide array of corporate transactions including corporate restructuring; legal audits, rights issue; share purchase transactions; share acquisition transactions; private liquidations; and corporate restructuring; and part of a team of lawyers on mergers and acquisitions.
Portia’s has attended several seminars, conferences and training programmes organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) and Corporate Law Institute. She has also been trained on Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Ghana and a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in Labour Relations (Labour Law).

Deladem is an Associate at Legal Anchor. She was called to the Bar in 2022 after graduating from the Ghana School of Law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws(LL.B) degree from the University of Ghana, Legon. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts(B.A.) in Philosophy and Psychology from the same university. During her course of study at the University of Ghana, she spent a year abroad at the University of Vermont as an international student. Deladem was the recipient of the Lebanse Women’s Association Scholarship for outstanding academic work for the 2012 academic year at the University of Ghana. She served as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Philosophy and Classics. Deladem has worked as a Research Assistant on a number of research projects including the Mellon Project on Multipartism, Social Fragmentation and Nation Building and the NeuroGEN Project which was a collaboration between the University of Ghana and the Oxford University on understanding attitudes towards behaviours associated with psychosis and its treatment in Ghana. In 2022, she co-authored an article titled ‘Traditional authority, nation building and decentralization in African States: A change in perspective which was published in the Journal of Philosophy and Culture”(May 2022).
